The last true sanctuary for Africa’s elephants is under attack from poachers, and Botswana has been in denial.

When the BBC broke the story of a dramatic spike in elephant poaching in Botswana in 2018 and the digital story went viral, our source got death threats and the BBC was accused of peddling ‘fake news.’

The new president of Botswana even went public to deny poaching was a problem in his country despite the peer-reviewed research.

The BBC News was given exclusive access to a scientific report which proves there’s a huge problem – and we flew to the poaching sites to verify the research.
